Orange Alaska

The Orange Alaska recipe makes 4 Alaskas.

2 oranges
1/2 cup maraschino cherries
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup coconut

 
Cut oranges in half, remove sections, squeeze out juice and remove membrane.

Put orange cups in freezer to chill.

Cut up cherries and drain orange sections.

Combine ice cream, orange sections, cherries and coconut.

Fill orange cups and freeze.

Just before serving, prepare meringue.

Cover each orange completely, then place under broiler to brown for 1 minute.

Serve immediately.

 

Meringue

2 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons sugar

Beat egg whites until foamy, add salt and sugar and beat until stiff and glossy.

Cover orange cups with meringue and brown.
